I like how all of us risk our lives to scan some sh*t, even though scanning is pointless.

You can scan it easily when it's attacking your prawn suit or seatruck

I have to say that that death animation probably makes me cringe the most, mainly because of how painful I could imagine it being. The others just regularly eat you, while the shadow leviathan looks like it covers you in what could be some kind of acid and then slowly digests you while you're still alive. Which creeps me the hell out.

Some advice for anyone else looking to scan it: It only instantly killed them because they weren't at full health - the animation only triggers if your health is so low that it can kill you with one bite. A shadow leviathan's bite deals 75 damage, meaning that as long as your health is above that, you won't be killed in one bite. So just bring a couple of medkits with you and heal yourself once it bites you. After that it wont attack you for a while, so you'll have plenty of time to scan it. That, or just bring a prawn suit with a grappling arm and go full DOOM on their ass until it floats upside down. That works, too.

Just kill him by bumping him with your sea truck, when a creature takes damage, its afraid and it tries to flee, so you have time to repair your sea truck,( or use the electricity). I killed two shadow leviathans using that method and then i scanned one of them.

i made a base in the crystal caverns and it SAVED MY LIFE, i put a moonpool in it and after going down to assemble al-ans bbody my seatruck was almost completely destroyed and i had no clue how to get out but then i saw it, the base. needless to say it was the best choice i ever made while playing below zero

Can we talk about how terrifying it is to die by this thing? Getting sprayed by digestive juices while trapped in its cage like mouth, like a Venus flytrap

Pro tip: The leviathan is pretty stationary while it's attacking something, so you can scan it while it's distracted eating your Prawn suit, then keep repairing the suit while it loops around.
