I always thought it was telling that Haymitch didn't vote yes, just said "I'm with the Mockingjay."

I think that moment came after Coin raised her arms and said, “May her arrow signify the end of tyranny and the beginning of a new era.Mockingjay, may your aim be as true as your heart is pure.” There was no point in killing Snow. The end of tyranny meant ending Coin.

Your explanation is spot on. It also proves even more that the movies dropped the ball on all the PTSD trauma and how much the games and rebellion affected her.

Anyone else want an hours long documentary of Rachel going through and explaining every scene of the books and movies in this much detail? Just me?

With the new book we also KNOW Haymitch knew something was up with Katniss's vote. He would not have voted for The Hunger Games to continue. He would not have broken his promise to Lenore Dove. Haymitch and Katniss are very similar.

Peeta saying he can't let her die is like a reflection of the end of their first Hunger Games when she refused to let him die by himself. They were both going to get out of there alive, then and at thismoment.

“Just how alike we are, and how much he truly understands me” hits SO DIFFERENT NOW. GOD Sunrise On The Reaping was SO GOOD.

After talking to Snow Katniss tried to convince herself that he lied but she couldn't make up her mind wether Coin had ordered the bomb or not. "Snow must be lying".

I always figured Katniss voted yes to stay in Coin's good books, but I really enjoyed hearing your breakdown over why Coin had Prim killed - in order to win over Katniss completely. Doing that, and willing to execute anyone who disagrees with her, really shows just how similar she is to Snow. I really appreciate your breakdowns! They're always so insightful, and you're very well spoken about them.

After reading Sunrise on the Reaping, Haymitch's trust in Katniss is so much more impactful to me because of how desperately he wanted the hunger games to end.

She definitely voted yes to be sure to be able to execute Coin "for Prim", Prim would have refused, so she bears a vote, knowing what Prim would do. Would ask

I love Snow's quote saying they agreed not to lie each other. It's both telling her that he's not lying when he says he didn't bomb the medics, and accusing her of lying when she says she doesn't believe him.

Years ago, I had a book club with some friends where we read the Hunger Games trilogy, and discussing this part was so interesting. Most of us in the group understood that Katniss was planning and never intended there to be a final hunger games when she answered “yes.” But one person in the group insisted that she wanted revenge for Prim. After a lot of discussion, no one’s mind was changed, but I always thought it was a complete misunderstanding of Katniss’ character to think that she would want more children to die.

My favorite part of the voting scene is Haymitch. He clearly doesn't know why exactly Katniss is voting yes and would never vote for the games normally, but he's smart enough to go with her, and smart enough to know exactly how to word it. It's no secret he's loyal to Katniss but the double-meaning of "Mockingjay" is just chef kiss. You can even see in that look shared between Haymitch and Katniss he's obviously giving her a chance to give an indication if she wants him to say no.

It's interesting that Coin didn't plan the execution standing next to Katniss to see Snow's face as he dies. She could have put Katniss on the stage with her and aim down to Snow. Her ego blinded herself to want to be above everyone in panem like a dictator... and ultimately be in clear range of an arrow to the heart.

I always assumed that we as readers were supposed to know immediately the bombs came from the rebels since Gale explains their use earlier in the book.
