There’s something I know about buying property in Thailand and that’s you can’t buy property in Thailand the only thing you can buy is an apartment/condo but you can’t buy land. The Thai government doesn’t allow it. My friend is married to a Thai woman and the only way to buy land there was for him to buy it in his wife’s name.

Did I hear host right re: almost $1,800/mo for fees/taxes before mortgage! Is this luxury property you're speaking of in Australia?

There are strict laws preventing foreigners to own 100% of somethings like land or businesses but for the naysayers out there keep in mind that there are always loopholes in laws you are entitled to only 49% but that doesnt mean your business partner, friend or wife HAS to get 51% you can spread that 51% to others to mak sure you are a majority single owner. You still have to be careful who to trust but at least those of you who dont wanna be betrayed by friends and loved ones can make sure they dont have enough of a claim to eff you over.

We live on 375' of Colorado river with 365 views, 2400 sf home with a guest house on 2 acres and our property tax is just over $200 per month. No HOA, and no other fees other than standard utilities. In my opinion, you'd have to be out of your mind to pay $1700 in "fees" just to live in Australia. Wow!
