The best way to understand what the actual real reason behind the beautiful flag is that it was created by the southern states during the Civil War and the only reason why a lot of people think it would be represented by hate is not because of the flag itself but rather because of the racial discrimination of a certain group of people that has used the flag that is what most people recognize and not the real meaning behind the flag

The flag used to be a symbol of rebellion and now a symbol of southern pride, I see nothing wrong with it despite being a Californian, I actually see it quite often in my hometown oddly enough

it's true that the flag originally was the battle flag of the confederacy (which, let's not lie, was a slaver's army), but it's become way more than just that. but regardless of the origin, now it's just a symbol of the South that's not even necessarily connected to the confederacy, which also black people fly knowing full well what the confederacy was all about
