Anyone who thinks 556 is better for SHTF, Please send me all your 7.62. thanks!!!
0326Ghost (10 minutes ago)
Respect you but disagree. I am a 556 AR-15 guy but the 7.62 x 39 will be in abundance because of the rifle being so popular in the US we even have American made AK-47s now because Americans love the rifle.

~If I had to bug out, I'd grab my AR15 and my can(s) of 5.56 Nato Ammo, simply because more ammo and less weight.

7.62x39 hands down. Great for close quarter and home defense.

Your rooster must be a 7.62x39 fan.

In the jungles of Tennessee , I think the AK , or SKS , will do just fine .

1) Supply and demand. The reason the 7.62x39 supply is alive and well is because of the US civilian demand for it, which will continue regardless of a foreign military need. 2) AKs do not have horrific accuracy...that's just not true. If you buy a crappy quality gun or ammo, AR or AK, its going to suffer. A decent AK/ammo/operator will have the same accuracy within 300m as a decent AR/ammo/operator, and it will last plenty long. 3) You can reload 7.62x39 brass. Not all 7.62x39 is steel...brass is less common, but it can be done. 4) It's typically easier to take down larger game with 7.62x39

Everything this guy said is wrong. You can find 762 far easier than 556. Evidently he hasn't been to a gun store in a while

Russia hasn’t abandoned the 7.62. The AK-103 is in 7.62x39.

The M4 is more reliable than most people think and the AK is more accurate than most people think.

I still go with the 7.62x 39 ammo!
They switched because it’s lighter. When you have an army that relies heavily on suppression for tactics, 5.45 and 5.56 have a major advantage. For individual use however I like 7.62x39 simply because I can buy more of it. It hits harder at short to medium range and I can hunt with it.

I do agree with you on some points. The 7.62x39 isn't as accurate as a a lot of ammo, but then, it wasn't designed to be. Most fighting after WW I trench warfare, was done within within 150 meters, and in the urban areas. Mikhail Kalashnikov designed the rifle to be assembled in a train station workshop if necessary, as a way to arm a peasant, uneducated army quickly. However; as a US ARmy veteran, and a Registered Nurse, I can point to a lot of VA hospitals and Graveyards that are full of folks that says the 7.62x39 is good enough.
