God damn did not expect to cry this hard, I knew it was going to be hard when Steve Martin was fighting back tears so that he was reading this line he had to stop because it’s so powerful

Leave that scene in and John Hughes would have an Oscar.

Hey mate thanks for sharing that an amazing piece of history you have. I can’t believe it. When I saw Steve talk about the scene and his emotion man, I would love to see a directors cut with that all added in. I’m sure it lives somewhere. Rest in peace JC, you are a Canadian legend and we will love you always.

This film was one of my favorites as a kid. It taught me patience, tolerance, and empathy. I was already born that way, but this film confirmed it.

Thanks for this man. I am a writer for theatre and TV and yeah I can see why they cut it for pacing reasons, but they should not have. The pathos of this scene would have been so much stronger with Candy delivering this beautiful dialogue. They got this decision wrong period.

That was beautiful. About as tear jerking as the end of Field Of Dreams. Wish they would have filmed it, and if they did, wish they would have kept it, or I wish that they would release an extended cut with that in there.

Thank you for this...I just finished watching...again. I was prompted by a TikTok where Steve Martin talks about this very scene. It was also nice to hear the instrumental of Modigliani (Lost In your Eyes) by Book of Love...my all time favorite band.
