Description
I like Sound waves and Sound chips! I want to learn more about them! My favorite chip is the 2A03! I love music in general and video games as well! But I’d really like to learn all I can about Sound chips! Also a huge King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard fan! I gain intense interests rather quickly! Because of this, updates to this channel are very sporadic! I will try to update it so it doesn’t go dead but sometimes i forget! But thank you for subscribing anyways!

I replayed Earthbound again recently (when it came to the switch) and this track in particular stands out so much as being unlike any other music I've ever heard from the SNES and also just being weirdly beyond its time -- it's hard to believe this was a boss music track from an early-mid-90's console game. One of the finest examples of sample based music from the 16-bit era.

It's always so intriguing to see these; I am really thoroughly impressed by the game's soundtrack and using the limit of those 8 channels as an advantage. Especially how it often has to balance melodic passages and more percussion-centric, which is really evident in this specific one. Fx the more ambient passage at 0:31, where many channels have to be used for the chords; and in the midst of it channel 3 has to be interrupted for the snare fill, yet you almost don't notice it. The whole soundtrack is just filled with small workarounds like that, it's impressive to see.

just in case you're confused about the "WHAT WHY HOW" etc comments it's referencing a meme that has the sanctuary guardian song in it

This soundtrack gives me the creeps a little bit, even though it's kinda catchy.

This is a fantastic visualization for me if I want to try and recreate music in a similar style.

I was about to ask why there's a free sound channel. Of course, they need a channel for combat sounds and user interface. It's incredible all of this was done with just 7 channels.
