The English royal family comes from Germany, so there is always a particularly warm welcome. Prince Albert and Queen Victoria come from the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha family and until 1917 the English royal family used the name Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, only under the influence of World War I and internal pressures in England did the name change to Windsor (from the place and castle). . English family also has a lot of family in Germany.

I admire German people very much, and have been a recipient of the over the top hospitality. Danke sehr. This brings it to higher levels, I think. Yet, with history firm in mind, HM the Queen was very safe in their care. Better a dutiful host than an absent one.

That huge motorcade was not just for security but, since it was a state visit, also an expression of the respect that the Queen duly received. I was at Paulskirche on that day, where the actual visit took place. Shortly before, the German President arrived. And I can only tell you, you would not want to mess with the guys who came with him. They looked like they were prepared for everything.
