You shouldn't have to pump it. I think you should have it serviced. My uncle has an 1987 GMC Sierra 2500 and all you do with that is get in and turn the key.

Pumping the pedal does absolutely nothing for starting a fuel injected motor. That only works for a motor with a carburetor on it, and the 1990 model didn't have a carb on it.
