Hi. I'm a late-comer to motorcycling, having started in my 40s. Ride with me as I go on track days, train to become an IAM Observer, have test rides on some cool bikes and go on some rides around the UK and further afield, solo or with my daughter "Ilford Stig" riding pillion.

Thanks for this little lesson in history telling about the roots and heritage of a once iconic brand. It makes one wonder what gloriuos innovations we may have been witnessing today had such manufacturing not shifted to foreign shores.

My grandfather was a foreman in the machine shop at this factory and my father also worked there in the early 1950's. I have a solid silver cup that was presented to the winner of the small bore rifle team winner by J.A. Prestwich. My grandfather won it so my times in the 1920's they gave him the cup to keep. It is beautifully engraved with the J.A

That was a great film. I've seen a lot of JAP engined bikes at the classic show but didn't know about their manufacturing history. So many bikes were made in the UK back then. If you ever get chance to visit the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, it showcases virtually every British made bike built.
