Welcome to Retro Bassin’ – Your Home for Vintage Bass Fishing!

Hop aboard the Retro Wagon as we explore the world of bass fishing with vintage gear, from classic rods and reels to antique lures and forgotten tackle from the golden days of angling. Whether you're reliving childhood memories or discovering old-school bass fishing for the first time, this channel is dedicated to keeping the spirit of retro fishing alive.

If you're a fan of legends like Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, Roland Martin, Hank Parker, or Rick Clunn, you’ll feel right at home. We test and review iconic baits like the Banjo Minnow, Flying Lure, Helicopter Lure, Walking Worm, and other "As Seen on TV" fishing lures to see if they still catch fish today.

Check out our popular series like "The History of..." and "Tackle Shop Tour" for deep dives into vintage tackle and classic bait shops. We upload new content just about every Saturday, so hit that subscribe button and fish it old school with us every week.

I had so at least half of these. The big bud, Dance’s eel, the helicopter lure, flying lure, and even the robotic frog and fish. My parents really did support my Saturday morning fishing show addiction and the ensuing infomercial exposure.

I bought one of those Dancing Eels when they first came out. Bill Dance did a whole show on it. I caught a 5 pound bass at a private 15 acre pond in east Texas prior to going into the USAF in '86.

Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.

I owned the dancing eel, helicopter lure and banjo minnows. Caught Bass on all three. But the Banjo Frogs were killers!

I was in Michigan visiting family back in 97 and caught a pike using a banjo minnow. I love those lures

I caught a ton of bass on the Flying Lure. That thing was magic for bedding bass and too-thick-to-punch weeds in shallow golf course ponds. I still love that lure. It freakin works.

The Banjo was great!! I was a teenager when that came out and my cousin and me were roped in by the infomercial so we split on a kit. We hammered Bass with those things!

I had #10 and #2. #10 never got me anything but I had the original banjo minnow that came with the rubber bands and I caught monster bass off them. I really should buy then again.
