I'm a fisherman from Hawaii and the best product to run thru your engine is " Salt Away" is dissolves the salt and it great to clean your whole boat and gear with. I do believe that running your motor in a barrel is great bc it can suck as much water it wants to, instead of those suction cup things. Coming from Hawaii we need to deal with things like even salt air that can destroy radiators on your can just parking it at the boat ramp. Salt Away is a good product that I exclusively use. The sell a a product that's like a fertilizer that connects to the end of your hose, giving it the right mixture to clean any surface affected by salt.

Simple Green regular corrodes aluminum. There is a blue container Simple Green Extreme that is made for aircraft and won’t corrode. You’re probably diluting it enough not to be a problem but still probably worth making that change. Saw a guy do some serious damage to his aircraft with regular simple green

I totally agree. Also...put some dawn soap in there too....It really cleans the motor out...Also, if you are adjusting the engine idle, you'll want to do that while the engine is in some water, under pressure.

Salt dissolves in fresh water, so earmuffs with cycling fresh water would be a good start. Sea water is basic and salt is neutral, so using soap or ammonium (which is also basic) would not be my first choice. Adding vinegar to water in the bucket would drive the PH down and remove salt spots if they're a concern.

I came for the motor, but I stayed for the cat. That cat is awesome!

On all of our previous smaller engines, we have always used a clothes detergent such as TIDE. This detergent not only cleans the water passages, removes salt and corrosion build-up, IT ALSO LUBRICATES the rubber impeller and other rubber components which Simple Green DOES NOT!!!

I just realized who this guy was. I am going fishing tomorrow and usually have salt away duty so I was wanting to see if there was a better way. Thanks man.

Running it on just the muffs and a hose works fine, as long as you run it long enough for the thermostat to open and flush the whole system. The Simple Green is a good idea, But maybe a bit overkill. Doing that on your last trip before you winterize would be a great idea.

Hi…. as a qualified automotive mechanic…I have been using 1 litter of engine coolant inhibitor right at the end of the flush on my outboard…which keeps all seals and aluminum housing lubricated at all times and keeps a film of anti-rust and anti-corrosion at all time…what is your thoughts on this ???
