The reason the enemy plane went down is because he went into a stall. You did not hit it with any of your bullets, that's how realistic IL-2 is.

Spray and pray, baby! That's what I like about this game. Novices are supposed to suck and forget to lead their target and not get close enough. You want to get close enough to jam your gun right into the cockpit and KABLAM!! Entertaining vid. Thanks.

Too far away..... Never played this but if you want to score hits get closer then 200ft off their tail before wasting ammo.
