Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks it would have been cooler if Shining Armor was the one replaced! Always though it would have been cool to see after Twilight gushing about this amazing brother only for her friends to be met with a huge jerk and stressed Cadance trying to run the wedding by herself. Like Chrysalis trying to take Cadance's love for Shining Armor.

Destroying the library was really the only way they could get a similar feeling of loss to killing off a character, so I didn't mind it actually. It made the stakes of the Tirek fight really high.

Imagine watching all of season 1 and then somehow the next episode you watched was something like “Student Counsel” You’d be so bewildered

In the episode with Twilight fighting Tirek, the animators did actually have a lot of fun with it. In fact, they actually fought over who would get to do the fight. One person didn't get the part they wanted, so they went HAM on the effects so as to have more fun on it. Apparently the animators actually had quite a bit of creative freedom on this show.

Funny thing about a Canterlot Wedding: Chrysalis replacing Shining Armor instead of Cadance would’ve explained why Celestia wouldn’t notice anything amiss (she wouldn’t know him that well personally like she does Cadance) and it would explain why only Twilight suspects anything (as it’s her literal brother).

i saw someone point out that they don’t mean magic magic, but the fact a good friendship won’t form unless you have all the elements and a spark of connection between you. magic is meant to be like that spark of connection
