Description
I use third engineer as a brand because from March 1969 till march 1985 I was a marine engineer in the merchant Navy and sailed for a number of years as third engineer which was my rank which I enjoyed very much.During that time I visited 70 or more countries from North/Central and South America,Middle East, Far East India Pacific Islands Briefly Australia, Medi, Europe and Africa including seeing steam in South Africa.

Always liked Bank Line ships. Always looked the job. First trip , 1973, JRO on RFA Orangeleaf with a Doxford. Amazing engines. Uk to Singapore via SA and the gulf. then back. Happy days.

Sailed as a deck apprentice on Larchbank 71 and Lossiebank 72: South America, Caribbean. Mississippi as far as Baton Rouge, St Lawrence, and the Pacific Islands through Panama.

Joined Bankline in February '63 as a deck apprentice , saIed twice round the world before i was18 ,longest trip 17 months 23 days,then stepped on a dodgy peice of spar ceiling and fell onto a steel deck badly breaking my leg ,and that was the end of that !

Great vid there thanks very much. I was sparks on Fleetbank/GQEE feb 75 to oct 75 - 8 months trip round the world eastwards - fabulous, and what lovely ships that class were. Great accommodation for sparks too, up on the Old Man's deck. Next trip was 6 months on Ernebank not quite so good:face-fuchsia-tongue-out:
