There's an unintentional moral to this scene: paying respect to the dead helps to not only demonstrate to newcomers you care, but also raises the spirits of anyone having suicidal thoughts.

Even though we didn’t meet Kaufmo, I’m sure they were an amazing person, who helped a lot of the other circus members through their struggles. Rest in peace, Kaufmo.

The way Pomni grins in the end, she realizes that she is not alone in the circus and the other people care about her and don't actually want her to abstract is just heart aching.

When you look at jax you see that he’s a little bit sad but then walks off

I think despite never meeting Kaufmo pre-abstraction, Pomni has deep feelings in this situation. One clown lost themselves, another came to take his place. So seeing Kaufmo’s friends think about him despite him not being around anymore, gives her a chance to put herself in his shoes, understanding what he went through (hence her nightmare about abstracting) but also a feeling of warmth at the fact that these people do care for her like they cared for him. They’re all in this together.

Literally the most heartwarming moment here.

Every time I see this it makes me cry because I just think about how an amazing person this guy was and also about the fact that I actually think about how sad I would feel if one of my loved ones died
