Try to check with someone who knows finance. You might be able to write off car expenses because you need your car for your job.

As a Gen X who retired (with a pension) at 54, you are right to try and stick it out. The current job market is the worst. Keep grinding!

DO NOT QUIT. Congress has not appropriated the funds and if you quit, you will lose all your rights. There is going to be a lot of legal challenges on this issue.

I feel this. In NY, I used to drive 15 miles in 55 minutes in traffic. I took a $12,000 pay cut and found peace. Budgeting saved my life. I had to leave the workforce at age fifty.
