As long as the furnace is running ,turning the stat up does not make it warm up any faster. When it reaches the set point then turning it up will help. It only heats up so fast.

Looks like a neat little torture device... I wouldn't worry too much about the welds, let them rust over and no one will no. Rat rod patina tools!

Wouldn't it it be more efficient and better for the tools to leave it at a constant temperature? Heating and cooling can't be good for rust and moisture on the tools.
