I'm working on a P.T. Cruiser right now making similar sounds. This isn't just struts. This can be any of a list of things. I'm swapping rotten bushings, some so bad you can visually see how worn they are.

To test this you don't even need to drive. Park the car turn it off so you can hear things. Place your hands ontop of each wheel well and push hard on your car more a less make hear bounce. If the car keeps bouncing after you let go struts are bad if it stops right when you let go they are still good for now. Also listen as you do it for noise you should hear the springs retract but also listen to things that might sound broken. And lastly get a flashlight and look in the wheel wells and look for leaking lift up the protective boot that keeps dust and dirt out and see if there's any oil leaking that also be a bad strut.

I had the same problem on my 1998 Contour (Mondeo), it was the dumb mechanic tightening the strut mounts assembly too much it wouldn't rotate with the bearings at all. Brand new "Strut Mate" from Monroe seemed to be stuck, I did the job myself and solved the problem and it's a slightly lowered heavy sedan with 17' wheels. Car feels like new now.

and it only occurs when driving slowly right? my car makes a similar noise, but when on highway driving faster, theres no noise

Boy, there's bacon everywhere! Ha!!! Funny guy.

Could be a number of other things aside from the usuals. Check the bushings to the sway bar itself. If struts have been used over 75-80 miles then change them regardless.

front suspension rattles ..start from the middle and work your way out ..take a pry bar and look for movement ..steering rack bushes...inner tie rod ends outer tie rod ends.. inner upper and lower control arm bush ..outer upper and lower ball joints ..sway bar bushes .sway bar stabaliser rods upper and lower ball joints. .loose brake caliper anti rattle pad clips ..

Do you hear any thing if you just bounce the car up and down. a lot of times you can hear where it is coming from. Is oil leaking out of them , does the top mount look and feel solid . see any signs of wear on any bushings or any thing. could it be something under hood making noise other than that powerful engine you have in there. It is just hard to tell for sure from here. 

Top front strut mounts/bearing is done for.

try removing the other keys from the ring so the other noises are distinguishable.

I think I have the same issue, AND Same car; 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8???? I have the Rattle, and SQUEAKING, [that from rear]. But Also when I turn a Hard Quick Left. I get a very loud 'Bang". Am thinking my Strut Mounts are going.

I Had The Same Noise But Mines Was Broken Lower Control Arm Bushings

I had many clunks and rattles from my car front end.  Had 150,000+ on the car so I was going to replace the struts and mounts.  Did it myself and saved a bundle.  But...In addition to a bad strut mount, I had a broken sway bar link and the bushings were shot.  Decided to change out both sides.  What a difference with the new struts, mounts, and sway bar links.  No Mo Clunky.

Looks like Pittsburgh Area. I used to live there. I moved because of the roads, cops and weather. I respect anyone that still lives there. I would think its the struts. Could be where the strut mounts at top. I would go to mechanic and have him check.

Did you find out what it was? My 08 Chevrolet Aveo has the same sound on the right wheel. We replace the struts mount but it still... my mechanic said that it could be bad shock absorber.

Man all I hear is you driving through gravel.

Had struts and shocks replaced with brand new ones on an 06 sienna and it makes these same rattles and rides horribly over even minor bumps. Blown shocks or something else? Sway bar links?
