It feels like a lot of folks try to cover up their terrible personalities by speaking out so loudly against folks just like themselves as a way to cover their asses. They couldn’t possibly do X, they’re so strongly opposed to X! To use a very popular example of the moment, James Somerton couldn’t be misogynistic, he’s a marginalized gay man! He’d never make other people feel as marginalized as he felt! He’d never step on other queer folk, he’s soooo queer himself!! (Eye roll)

Speaking as someone who watched Shannon, I watched her because I was angry at the world and hurting from mental illness and bullying caused by undiagnosed autism. As I got therapy I fell out of interest with her content and started to get bad vibes about her.

I think the issue with some of those guys is it's propaganda I've seen it all before history repeats itself because of propaganda how do you get the public's favor? by saying things they wanna hear

It's dramatically easier to tear someone down than to build yourself up.

It might sound more a philosophy, but I think most of people who try to act more morally good fail to live up, is due to flawed human nature as everyone has the capacity and ability to be an asshole. But I think your point is valid and speaks well.

It's probably a good idea to point out that most people not only will not do their own research, but cannot do their own research; most people are incapable of researching anything with critical thought and bias accounted for. Moreover, it is often dangerous to encourage people to do their own research and draw their own conclusions, in many settings, as the conclusions they will reach using likely flawed and inexperienced research skills will create flawed and inexperienced conclusions - we rely on scientists and field experts to draw conclusions for us, that we could never fully grasp or research with the handful of minutes we have available in a day. I guess the real questions are "Can experts in morality exist in this space?" and "Is it useful/beneficial to consume and trust these opinions?".

I really like your commentary and insight! It’s refreshing to finally see someone discuss the why’s and how’s of viewers trusting content creators that end up being not so good people, and how people as viewers can prevent the sort of unique shock that comes from situations like these.

yeah i think part of the reason why there's toxic people in the community is because there's toxi people in every community, look at the minecraft one for exemple, and because we don't cover the okay people, the ones that didn't do much wrong, it makes you think that there's much more toxic people in the community instead of a few bad apples. It's a common bias.
