Outlast was good when it came to actual scares, but for me the most psychological horror game was Neverending Nightmares. Legit the whole time you were in it you never felt at peace. One level was too long but eventually the levels got to a point where I just NOPED right out of my chair and straight out of my room. It was THAT bad.

tbh random crits are more scary than any other horror game

Resident evil if your looking for horror with a small chance of fighting back, evil within is also a good one for more psychological horror as well.
