I used to audit the Hotel Front Desk Clerk's register here in USA. Clerk should have a form to fill it out and they would know if they are short or not because of the paper report from their system vs the cash, CC or any type of payment on hand. They should match, therefore, every time they turn their register in, they would know if they are short or over. Both auditor and Clerk can't leave without signing that both of them acknowledge the short and over of the register. Also, there was unscheduled audit in the middle of their shift. Believe it or not, I used to find a discrepancies before Cash, CC or any of payment vs what the system report was reporting. It definitely works for the hotel.
