Tearing it down isnt the problem. Putting it back together properly is where most people run into trouble

always, always, always remove torqued bolts in a reverse pattern. The heads torque down from the center to the outside, so removal should be from the outside to the inside. This helps prevent warpage.

I've been wanting to learn lots more about cars and so I looked up how to take apart an engine. This looks wayyyy more easy than I thought it would. GIves me some more hope :)

I've got a 350 in my 1991 pickup truck and she has run like a champ. Even when she had head and freeze plug problems she still ran very well Until I could get her fixed.

Man it's a good show! I usually don't watch shows with ad segments but I found myself interested in all the stuff you guys had on this episode. Also I've never torn down a v8 so it was really informative. I think you guys just earned yourselves a new subscriber!

There's one thing you left out, though; all rod caps need to be numbered, and upon reassembly, they need to go back on their respective rods in the same orientation. The only time this isn't applicable is if the rod bores are going to be machined.

Ha, I got to tear down a dozen of them, within a week, when someone at our marina neglected to winterize a bunch of boats before a big freeze. Replaced a dozen blocks on new boats. Gotta say yanking an engine from most boats is very easy.

I actually already do have that craftsman set, that exact one! And I absolutely love it, very unique set of tools, great feel!
