Him saying “gotcha” actually helped her. The awkward silence would have been much much worse for her.

Peterson: “gotcha”
dodieodie498 (18 minutes ago)
Jordan knows himself and he trusts to logic. That makes him comfortable in his own skin. He also has the patience of a saint.
steveelliott77 (27 minutes ago)
The “gotcha” was the best part of the conversation. Jordan showed he can keep his cool, be persuasive and beat her at her own game. The trifecta.

Peterson: “What a clear, sunny day.”

A decent pause before answering questions given to you is VERY valuable. It shows many things. Chief among these- you care about the question enough to give a thoughtful answer that you believe in. Wether or not the other agrees with you is insignificant. If it does, its no longer a Q and A. Its an argument.

I once had a friend who did this to me. She was great at deflection also. I solved the “problem” by leaving the friendship.

"It's been rather uncomfortable." That's an amazing line.

Jordan: I.....

I think Jordan's "gotcha!" comment was more playful and enjoying the debate, trying to get the interviewer to relax. It's such a silly phrase, and he's so eloquent. I think it was an attempt to lighten the mood.

@10:18 It did help prove his persuasive case. Remember he was not attempting to persuade Cathy. He was debating in front of an audience. And he was able to get her to concede defeat.
