I have the same gas valve on my Hot Water heater and I had the same problem with 5 blinking pattern. I did what this person did and it worked for me as well. I was gonna call a repair man, good thing I saw this vid. Thank you for sharing.

Just did this and you saved me a TON of experimenting, then having to call a professional. Back to one blinking light!

Thank you! I got my dad’s hot water heater to reset after 5 blinking lights. Did it over the phone after watching this!

this reset definitely works to restart, but if your water temperature sensor is bad it will only run for a short while and then revert to the dreated 5 flashes. It's very hard to find just that hot water heater temp sensor, the only ones I've found were on eBay which means someone likely pulled them off of unit and knew they were a valuable part. Otherwise they want you to replace the entire Gas Valve Unit and I could not find those for much cheaper than $149 - $160. Happy hunting!

Worked perfectly—thank you! Hardest power was pulling out the power supply.

Hey I'm back with an update. It continued to fail after a very short period of time. There was a tiny water leak that had got into the control valve. I got a replacement control at Ace Hardware and 3 days in it's running great.
