These radios do not require a GMRS license to use the GMRS channels because they are 1.5/2 watt max.The radio is called license free for a reason.

If 2 indviduals are about 30 miles apart, standing on tall hills or mountains facing towards each other, can see the mountain the other is standing on, and if the planets are aligned, they cal talk to each other. :-)
