An inglorious end for such magnificent machines. Many carried men safely through the absolute worst moments of their lives.

At the end of WWII there were still new airplanes coming off the assembly line. Some B-17's were flown from the factory directly to the boneyard and scrapped with only 10 hours of flying time on them.

I think they filmed a scene from “The Best Years of Our Lives” in that boneyard.

What an absolute shame no one saw these as the beacons of American history that they are; they were more than just metals - they were homes, stories, and Americana.

Wow, there is a lot of history rotting away right there. I hope as many aircraft as possible were salvaged, pieced together and made airworthy again!

Sad to realize that many of the planes being scrapped were factory fresh. I don't understand why no one made an effort to save at least one B-32 Dominator.
