One of the ways that I think of hardship, especially the hardship Christians must endure is: โ€œyou can either live a lifetime of happiness for an eternity of hardship, or a lifetime of hardship for a eternity of happinessโ€

The reason I believe in God is because my heart has stopped 7 times. Something wants me here.

I love Ecclesiastes' view on suffering. A lot of people who deconstructed from the faith or know baseline what Christianity is hear about it, hear people say "I found God and I was in the dumps and now I have a nice house and stuff bc God gave it to me bc of faithfulness", they hear people who say "if you pray about it hard enough God will fix it", they hear people who can't fathom or understand why God didn't heal someone from a terminal illness and "let them die." But what these people- as well as many Christians- don't understand is that BELIEVING IN GOD DOESN'T MEAN HE WILL REWARD YOU WITH AN EASIER TIME ON EARTH. Instead the bible warns us of how being a believer may come with even more struggles and trials- just look at the gruesome ways the disciples all died, and the struggling lives they had. Ecclesiastes uprooted my misguided understanding of the Christian faith by introducing the idea that believers and non-believers both experience suffering, but believers can take courage in the knowledge that there is reason for their suffering- that we live in a broken world. And that if we let God, he can use the harmful things that happen to and around us for our spiritual maturity. God does not create suffering; suffering is not of God. But it happens because the world is fallen, because people don't follow his plans, and yet, God can make something of it.

This is truly inspired by the Holy Spirit! I haven't yet seen such a down to earth analysis or the evidences for faith. Part 3 is a must!

I have discussions like this with my best atheist friend and I've learnt that unfortunately there is no way that we can convince someone of these points without them being dismissed in some way.
