I bought this exact brush as part of a kit that included a compressor and 3L tank about 18 months ago as my first airbrush. The brush came with the .2mm needle installed and also spare .35 and .50 needles and nozzles. I only use it for painting terrain and priming minis, but I have no complaints. It is my first airbrush and it has done everything I have asked of it. For the price, I think it is excellent value for money and I cant wrap my head round spending $300 on a brush ...I know my models wont look any better when primed with a real Iwata. If I encounter a job that this knock-off cant do or struggles with, maybe I'd consider an upgrade, but it hasn't happened yet.

One major upgrade you can make to the quality of this airbrush in your case is a compressor with an air tank. The final close-up photo you showed of the fine lines is a perfect example of pulsing - the pressure differences when the piston moves up and down. This would be eliminated with the more consistent pressure achieved with an air-tank.

Ive got this brush ..... as a backup to Iwata. It means I can use this for workhorse primer coats or metallics, and keep the Iwata for fine work. Polish the needle. And still lots cheaper than my first brush - Aztec 470 plastic body.

I have a HF (Harbour Freight) cheapo airbrush. I ended up destroying the trigger and bent the back rocker so bad that it was no longer usable. I tried to get parts from HF but to no avail. I ended up with a Badger 155 Anthem which I found out that the trigger and back rocker would fit the HF cheapo. So I ordered a Badger 155 Anthem trigger and back rocker. I put them into the cheapo airbrush but it kept the air on all the time. So I decided to modify the trigger and ended up grinding too much off the bottom of the trigger. I found out that I needed to take a little metal from the bottom of the hole in the trigger where the needle passes through; so now the air is off until I depress the trigger but it sometimes jams because it's too short now. So I will need to order another one and modify it the correct way. I use the HF cheapo for lacquer based paints and my Badger 155 Anthem for acrylic paints.

The cheaper seals/rings vibrate inside the body of the tool. This creates a reverb and sends pressure waves that cause the problems in paint smoothness you are seeing. If tighter, more solid seals can be acquired for this tool, it would represent a MAJOR upgrade and be worth it.

I just started airbrushing. Have a Badger that works fine (perfect) for what I do, suction feed. I bought the brush you show, first gravity feed brush for me. It is a pain in the a_ _. Tip clogs immediately, have to clean tip "constantly." Paint spits. Have to start off the work. Can't trust it.

What is the purpose of the bottom screw in front part of the penbrush?

Why you don't advise the use of the crown? Or, what does the crown do that is not good?
