Im 15 and I love watching movies like this on occasions. And I wish people my age would give movies like this a chance.

I used to watch these movies with my mom as a kid, usually after school, sitting in front of our b&w TV with the rabbit ears. They'd come on a program called The Early Show, these 50s-era films that featured women whose wardrobes featured a lot of evening gowns for parties & nightclubbing. I really thought (I was 10) this was how my life would be as an adult: I'd grow up to move to NYC, work as a secretary, rent an apt with roommates, & go out dancing after work where one day I'd meet my future husband...Spencer Tracy or Cary Grant. Funny how these films could suggest a lifestyle to a little Negro girl from Chicago whose dad was a bus driver and whose mom was a housewife and artist. But I loved these films. This is the first time I've seen Whirlpool. The story unfortunately collapses in the 3rd act but, on the whole, it's still entertaining. Gene Tierney's most memorable roles--The Razor's Edge, Laura--are still favorites of mine. I did grow up & move to NYC, not for a secretarial job but to attend NYU grad school. I didn't own any evening gowns--just jeans & t-shirts. By the 70s, life had changed.

Oh how times change…1950’s movies….twin beds and dressing gowns, and polite chit chat with no punctuated “F” word heard anytime. What a nice relief!

Darn good tv… They had about a quarter of the technology we have today and these shows are still far more entertaining. Again much thanks for sharing these treasures.

I wish they still made movies with this kind of dialogue and characters. Not a single curse word among them!

Was Gene Tierney gorgeous or was she gorgeous?!!! Major drop dead gorgeous than any current Hollywood stars!!!

What a smooth, slick, brilliant performance by José Ferrer ... an actor who should never be forgotten. His subtle use of facial expressions, little pauses, body language ... just wonderful.

One of the first things that struck me about Whirlpool is how good an actress Gene Tierney actually was. She does such a terrific job of portraying both the vulnerability and desperation of her character.

Chris, thank you so much for adding this jewel! Oh and another THANKS for no commercials. Gene Tierney was an outstanding actress.
How I wish we still dressed up like the 50s and 60s now....... always decently dressed wherever we go....

Jose Ferrer - underrated as a great actor and a scary villain ! Good movie.

Ben Hecht on screenplay, Alfred Newman (Randy’s uncle) on the musical score, Otto Preminger on direction and Gene Tierney gracing the screen. I've seen it once, but here l am again..happily.

I love watching these black and white movies

Gene Tierney's husband, Oleg Cassini, designed her wardrobe for most of her films. He did a great job. He also designed for Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy. He was very talented.
