Instead of a dedicated Steam Train theme, LEGO should just have a dedicated "Trains" theme. Why are trains apart of the City theme anyway? With a dedicated Trains theme you could do steam trains ( european style, wild west style, etc ) as well as trains from different eras ( bring back the Santa Fe Super Chief! ). But, I agree with selling engines and cars separately ( also train themed buildings like passenger/cargo stations, roundhouses, etc ). Honestly, LEGO could approach the Train theme like Speed Champions. Each engine/car could be based on a real vehicle.

I agree, as a train enthusiast I would love to see more Steam locomotives and rolling stock! I love the early 2000 9v Build Your Own Train sets and maybe see something like that back with what you are talking about. I also LOVE the idea of an 18+ steam locomotive, no matter what it is I would 100% buy!

I think you’ve said everything that Lego should hear. There is such an incredible train fan base out there, that if they we’re to create what you’ve shown, they would sell out. Individual steam loco’s, rolling stock, and stations would be incredible! Plus the extra long track pieces and different angle curves would be nice too.

I was obsessed with lego trains as a kid but since they were so hard to get at the time I just gave up on it, I would love to see a whole theme built around trains

You know, a steam loco wouldn't have to be unpowered. A small Power Functions motor and a basic geartrain powering one of the axles will fit within the gauge of LEGO train track, and the remaining drive wheels can be driven via connecting rods. You're not forced to use the train motor blocks.

Imagine if they also licensed some of the current operating steam locomotives and trains from 1st class, private, and non-profit railroads and museums. As someone from America, having a Lego Big Boy, Challenger, Daylight, Northern, J-class, S3, A-class, and even "The Living Legend" FEF-3 would be amazing!

Or just make the LEGO City train sets more often and make them more realistic and grimey looking. While it is true that modern train liveries are more vibrant, the city trains having brighter colours gives them a bit more of an abstract feel to them.

I would love to see the options to buy individual locomotives, carriages and wagons along with the tracks available by type (straights, curves, points / turnouts etc) so we can buy what we need for out track plan.

I’m not a big LEGO railroader anymore, but I still have my Emerald Night in one piece. It thankfully wasn’t being kept with the other sets when my shelves collapsed. My track is still in the basement, in case I want to get it out again.

Why isn't this a thing, like sure, LEGO is more focused on doing LEGO City & other things aimed towards small children, but with the release of the Crocodile Locomotive, it's clear that LEGO can clearly do this. This is a must.
