Just not into them. Too big for what you get, too expensive for what you get and too much maintenance for what you get. Think about a set of tires or brakes. Just me I guess but you have to be into Unimogs just for being into Unimogs. There are a hell of a lot of places you won't be able to go. Especially in CO. Low hanging trees and boulders, narrow roads and other obstacles that will be hindered by the size of the beast. But I say to each his own and I applaud you for even thinking about an endeavor like this. Good luck with the build. It will be exciting to watch.

Yup, 14' on a cabover chassis is what I was thinking would be ideal for a combination of driveability and space. I love going down the road in a COE with nothing but that sheet of glass in front of you.

Well it seems like you really thought this one out...haha.. I almost feel like an expert myself after watching this. Will be great to follow along on your build. Pull the trigger !!!

Looking forward seeing what other crazy people are doing on and with a truck ! :-)

Same footprint and height as m1079.

Sounds good so far. I see that others have already addressed the concern for parts availability and specialty maintenance knowledge for the model. If it's anything near a Unimog, it'll be an adventure for sure!

nice!...... this will be neat to watch

Looks amazing.

From my research the Stewart & Stevenson M1078 and the Steyr 12M18 are essentially identical vehicles. The M1078 has American made Engine/Transmission and reinforced frame rails. To get the full 14' bed you need to relocate the spare tire and air intake.

might wanna double check,, but i'm pretty sure steyr supplies the cab/chassis to stewert stevens,,,, thats why a 12ft box looks proportionate.

Hey bud that does look almost exactly like a Stevenson unit with the box on it the boys at goonsquad just bought one to do same look it up bud it was cheap and only had 800 miles on it seen another ones two 3 grand with no miles and empty box ready to convert
