My theory is that, from shed 17(DO NOT LOOK UP UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR OWN CHILDHOOD RUINED), instead of thomas breaking out of his train shell , he ReTuRnSsSS to his shed, TRAUMATIZED. afterwards, people noticed him acting very differently.
