I'll be honest, I never really had any doubt about Illumination tackling the Mario Movie. When it was first announced, my first thought was "Hm. It has potential. Their animation style would lend itself well to something as bouncy, rubbery, and colorful as Mario." My only real concern was the budget, which was still kind of nullified since Miyamoto was involved. The only time I truly got worried about how this movie would turn out was the voice cast announcement and when I learned Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic were the writers. But after talking with a friend, I decided the voice cast also had potential and my only real concern was Aaron and Michael, who I think have proven themselves as worthy writers for a Mario Movie.

I don’t know how, but all the trailers we’ve seen for this movie have slowly turned me from hardly caring about the movie to marking my calendar for the release date.

Some people were saying this might be Illumination’s Spiderverse. Maybe that’s a bit of a stretch. This, at best will be what “The Peanuts Movie” was for Blue Sky.

Yeah, I had my doubts when it was announced Illumunation would be the studio for this movie, but just from the trailers it looks like Illumination really stepped up their game -- from crud like Sing to something truly epic and cinematic.
