NO you are not being overly cautious, my shiny giratina almost wiped out my whole team I thought I was prepared but it was just too strong I got the nature I wanted but have to settle with the Master ball too

At the end of the day, you do not collect a shiny of every Pokémon. You collect a shiny of your favorite Pokémon.

I recently had to use a Masterball on shiny Lugia in Soulsilver. This makes me feel a little better knowing that even really good hunters sometimes have bad luck with the catching. Good luck on future hunts!
