As an experienced Seamen, the first mistake those two did (from looking at their Snap photo) was going out into the open ocean without any life jacket donned and worse at night. It doesn't matter you're experienced and an excellent swimmer, safety at sea is an absolute must!

Sadly Sofia most likely did drown. Messing about in a boat is the very last thing anyone should do when drinking or taking drugs. The sea is very powerful and very unforgiving

Her mother seems like an awesome lady. Very honest and heartbroken I pray they find Sophia to bring closure for her family, but I really hope she is alive and well somewhere.

I was on a Coast Guard cutter, a buoy tender, that used to set the buoys from Maine down to about this area. We serviced the buoys and brought water, fuel and supplies to the lighthouses. Almost all of them are automated now. To begin with, it is very dangerous to take a row boat out into the Atlantic Ocean. It's not really ocean but it's an inlet that's part of it. But still the seas can get very rough and unpredictable very quickly. It's just not something you'd want to do. When we were doing a search we were very thorough. A lot of Coasties would scour a designated search area for clues on multiple vessels. Even a small piece of wood is a clue. So the lady is wrong when she said the Coast Guard could have done better. We always did the best we possibly could. If they said they could not find any evidence of Sophia they were telling the truth.

Why would a jealous boyfriend let his girlfriend go out on a boat with another guy and say it's okay I think something sounds funny here he might have set them up not saying he did but if he was abusive to her and controlling why would he let her go out with another guy

Yeah....the boyfriend let her go. She disappears. The boyfriend calls the mom. The boyfriend finds a boat and the shoe. Seems he knew an awful lot. Was there an autopsy on Spencer? Did he drown or was he beaten? What was his actual cause of death?

If a body is lost in the ocean isn't it very possible that the body would never be found?

Why did they call mom and not 911, why did the boyfriend act like he didn't know where Sofia is, WHY DID BOYFRIEND ASK MOM IF SOFIA CALLED HER???? HE NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT!!

Michelle I am so sorry for your loss, I hope she is found soon. I really don't understand why Spencer's cause of death hasn't been released, or why there are two different versions about the lighthouse camera working, why Spencer's phone records weren't pursued back further than the phone calls that night, or why a potential piece of evidence (sneaker) was left behind. It sounds to me as though the investigators were grossly negligent.
