im probably less concerned about the bad tape splice but more of the fact that your tv is mounted on literal vhs tapes (no offense)

It seems to me that the splicing thickened this part too much, making it too heavy to the point that the VCR could not pull any more tape (that's why the image was paused), for safety reasons the VCR turned itself off.

I would fix snapped VHS tape (and betmax too) using ordinary sticky tape, just as long as it's on the back side of the tape and not on the oxide side

1:35 that's when the screen's supposed to go black after a few seconds and you can kinda see a very obscured distorted face amongst it I think
