Description
We don’t live in our travel trailer any more, not full time anyway. We live in a house! It’s not ours! It’s part of the deal! We work and live at a Pioneer Settlement Homestead, as the Caretaker during the fall and winter season, then travel north like all the snowbirds. We visit family and friends, maybe a little workamping, then back to the pioneer settlement for another season. So, we really aren’t FULL Time Workampers anymore. Now, I hire Workampers to help maintain the settlement, help with building rentals, and events that we have throughout the year. We tell stories of a pioneer settlement that ain’t ours. We have 6 historic homes; each have had their own homestead. My Job! Maintain all of them. We have a lot to learn about homesteading, pioneer history and all the pioneer skills necessary to care for the property. We are still doing workamper type work, just a little different.

Thanks for your information on the famcamps. My husband and I are both veterans but have yet to stay at a famcamp. We did visit a few bases along the way for some shopping.

We've stayed at the Naval Weapons Station Annex FamCamp. Great place kinda out of the way but all RV sites are full hookup with concrete pads for the RV.

mom and dad are not going to the RV park by themselves, since they are not eligible to get the dependent ID card, even though with their son/daughter in the military. They still can go with the sponsors present.

Unfortunately, Famcamp pricing has skyrocketed in many areas! Buckley AFB famcamp has gone up to $40 per night, Ellsworth AFB almost doubled recently to $54 per night ! Not sure the cause other than Civilian contractors having control of the facilities. What were once viable, recreational benefits for military personnel, have become financially out of reach, for those of us on fixed disability income.

Great information. We have stayed at Robins AFB fam camp in Georgia in 2005. It was nice then.
