Disclaimer: no kittens were harm in the making of this experiment, only kittehz.
cynnthemanevolant (17 minutes ago)
Well, realistically - the kittens were most likely killed once all of their behavioural experiment were complete, so that an autopsy could be performed.

And the Dr. said as long as you're not doing it to me then I declare its ethical.

i dont like cats, but this hurts to watch
ironmarshal9343 (52 minutes ago)
Very interesting and informative. A lot about neurology was clearly learned from this. Still fucking creepy though.

Them poor little kitty kats
andeggbreaks (1 hour ago)
The kittens were put down after the experiment in order to more closely look at their brains, in response to some comments saying the kittens weren't really harmed. It's kinda hard to look at a something's brain without harming it. No doubt this experiment was important regardless, but yeah, the kittens didn't have a great time.

They showed this to us in med school. It’s still a very successful experiment.

@EddieAlda Well, to clarify: he inflicted no pain on the cats nor tortured them in any way. Even in 1970, you needed to pass an Ethics Review Board to get funding. The cats simply had a very unusual upbringing that had profound effects on their vision, but they did not suffer on account of it. Experimenters work closely with their animals and usually develop great affection for them. I doubt Blakemore was deficient in the compassion department.

Иногда в полном шоке от идеи экспериментов от ученых .

Heard of this bastard before, back in the nineties, during a campaign to save the Hillgrove cats. Hillgrove Farm in Oxfordshire was where farmer Brown bred cats for vivisection, got it shut down...
steveasat2 (8 hours ago)
@melifyable To be fair, what Blakemore proved by this experiment pushed neuroscience ahead tremendously, and the cats were not in any way tormented by their unusual upbringing. As domesticated animals, they would never have to hunt their own meals, so the real-world effects wouldn't be serious. They'd just be more likely than most cats to do that head-tilting thing when they look at something.

Im trying to comprehend how the cats saw the world without vertical or horizontal lines. How would that even look? Do objects with horizontal surfaces look vertical, or do they not exist at all? Was there any more information on that?

WHAT'S A "kittehz"?
thomasraven (5 hours ago)
And this is why we should ban animal testing because this knowledge didn't benefit anyone.
