I almost consider the awl on the Farmer in my pocket to be the main blade. Its fast to open, and can be done one handed with practice (although a bit awkwardly), and it will do most rough cutting jobs. It opens mail, boxes, cuts cord, and pokes things that need poking, makes holes to start the knife or saw in etc. It cuts seat belts like nothing!

I'm glad you liked it - thanks for watching :-)

Slowly becoming my favorite EDC knife.

Just got mine recently and do like it. Was trying to decide between it or the cadet and glad I chose electrician due to it being a little larger. Has an elegant and rough look all on one plus tool selection is perfect for me.

Use my electrician everyday. Mostly the reamer and sheepsfoot/cable blade. I really love it. Made a nice lil kydex neck sheath for it. And yes, there is a bit of a scuff in my scales too. Thx for sharing jim.

very nice review!excellent mentioned of the differents.

What’s in a name? Although it’s called the ‘electrician’ it would possibly make a great pruning knife with the recess in the sheepsfoot blade - I might give it a whirl?

You mentioned it comes with instructions on how to open a tin can - how do you do that with this knife? Thanks.

Great comparison. Vic alox knives are tough and the Electrician looks particularly useful. Yeah, the alox handle edges aren't up to par with the rest of the tool's fit and finish. And the anodization wears off easily (isn't as noticable on the silver finish). Nice slideshow at the end!

Glad to see I'm not the only one that tucks an eyeglass driver into their Spartan.

Handsome little knife! I've had my eye on an Alox Farmer for a while, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I just watched National Geographic's Mega Factories this morning on Swiss Army Knives (what timing!). Quite fascinating. They produce about 60,000 knives a day! Thanks for sharing a peek at your new acquisition!

Good review of an interesting knife, I haven't seen those before. I agree, the sheepsfoot style blades are very useful, although I know a lot of people aren't keen on them. I find them great for precise cutting tasks, and very good for opening packages that contain stuff that might get cut with a more pointy blade.

My Alox Solo is the same, scruffy edges on the back of the scales. I spoke to the staff at Victorinox store London and they said it's possibly caused by a buffing of the knife backspring before shipment, as most the scuffs are on the rear. Probably very soft aluminium at the edges, the wheel probably catches them.

Hi i have the victorinox pruner also Alox pioneer model and i too have " scruffy" scales i think its naturally like that from production but its not buggy i must say i never do look that close at my knives when using them
stormrider01 (22 hours ago)
The edges of the scales are normal, thats on every alox knive.
