im constantly looking for motorcycles since i love them, yet ive still managed to almost hit two. if its hard to see bikes for a person who loves them i cant imagine how hard it is for a person who couldnt care less. so like everyone says "ride like cars dont see you" you cant assume a car will see you so the best thing to do is be prepared.

They need something like these reminders and advertisements done here in Perth. Motorcycle accident are well known here, but only little things they (Dept of Transport) did to make drivers and bikers aware of the problem. Sadly, there are more safety ads about cyclist more than motorcyclist.

Loud pipes save lives. They might be annoying to other road users but I've experimented in the past alongside my motorcycling friends and we've always found the load exhaust pipe to be better than anything else. Alongside maybe keeping your lights on 24/7. Sad we even have to take such precautions.

As a motorcyclist myself and a car driver, bus driver, HGV driver also, I believe riding a bike does indeed make you a safer car driver, especially towards motorcyclists.

@ben2talk the loud pipes is a myth as your pipes direct the sound to the side and to the back of your motorcycle. According to the Hurt Report bright colors on a bike do not help, but bright colors on your person will, I wear yellow or red myself as well as do other things to stay visible.

as for the corners, same rule that applies to the porsche 911"slow in fast out"use front and rear brakes before you get to the corner lean the bike way over and start to give a little gas about mid corner.and if you get surprised by a corner i like to down shift or use a little rear brake.but be aware most larger bikes dont like to be down shifted mid corner and will slide because of they are better at engine braking,so i usually go no brakes knee out to help with weight shift.happy ridding folks

@SlayerofFiction I agree to an extent - but in slower moving traffic it can help - or maybe it's more to do with my yellow/black helmet and coat - and full beam... I tend to weave a little to make sure my beam is passing through wing-mirrors, and a few touches on the horn helps. I have no idea if the flashing hazards helps - but I think if anyone does look in their mirror it might just draw attention. It might be a useless precaution, but there's no harm in adding an extra layer of safety.

studying OH&S the first rule is to eliminate the hazard therefore don't filter through the traffic and you can't get knocked off because you weren't seen.. tight corner, eliminate the hazard of running wide and panic by slowing down.. studying OHS has made me way safer on my gixxa, I still have fun but I pick my moments carefully

Well loud pipes will avoid the filtering accidents because the cars can hear you coming and will look over, same deal with the overtaking crashes. I do agree that loud pipe is a shitty way to protect you'reself and you should be ATGATT and cautious but loud pipes can help.
