I have the S7 Active and, let me tell you, that built-in polymer screen protector is awesome. It does appear to be thinner on the S8 but I can guarantee you it makes a HUGE difference in the durability of that screen. I screwed up and took it off of my S7 and dropped it in gravel. The same gravel I have dropped it in numerous times without a problem. It broke. And NO it does not affect the water resistance of the device. Don't minimize this feature of the Active series. It does an amazing job of protecting the screen.

This is awesome, I was just search for glass/screen replacements as day-to-day pocket scratches are starting to form.

Thanks for the tip. My brand new s8 active got a dent in poly and made the screen look strange when on. Remove it easily and looks like it should.

Just a little tip that poly screen protector is what makes the new active shatter resistant

It's just a screen protector. Nothing weird underneath. Just glass. Waterproofing is not effected. Again. Its just a screen protector.

I have proven that this protector that is installed by the factory is not just any protector. I had 2x S8 actives, one totally dead both with perfect screens. I removed the factory protector from the non working device, and installed a "tempered" glass protector which after anaylsis was clearly a Polycarbonate protector much like the factory one. Nonetheless, drop testing onto the screen directly, the LCD+"tempered" glass shaddered, while the factory protector just got a scuff mark. Would take scuff mark over broken screen anyday.

Can you replace the plastic with another original plastic screen protector? Or is there something close to it. Yes, plastic is softer and scratches easily, but it better absorbs impact because it is softer. To be, or not to be, that is a trade off one must make.

I have one but it's terribly scratched and is chipped from the middle, would you think removing the poly would leave a clear screen? Thanks in advance

When you took off the original screen protector, did you notice the tempered glass protectors stay on better? I have been through at least 3 screen protectors and they will all have bubbles at the edge of screen. If this helps them stick I will do the same, thanks

Glass screen protectors work just as good as plastic ones in terms of drop protection. the trade off is that you will need to replace the glass one if you drop it as it will most likely shatter it. But your phone will be fine. just buy another one.

I have never liked using screen protectors of any sort - my experience has been that the glass Samsung uses is the best at resisting scratches and scuffs on its own. Underneath this screen protector is it just standard glass like on the regular S8?
