Guys you got to find a piece of the aetherial to start the quest as a misc quest, it tells you to investigate, thats when you read the book. My advise is to find the piece in the storage room and read the book that a dead adventurer has near by, then u start it :)

If you are in the vampires castle, there is another copy of it in the smithing area of it. I chose to be dawn guard and when you raid the castle, I just ended up reading it.

If you are having trouble starting it, i read the autheriem wars book but it didnt start. I then read the book underneath called wisp mother or something like that and got the quest. Please thumbs up so people can see

I read the book but the quest didn't start and wen I went to the ruins it still didn't start and her journal wasn't even there. Help

Then you already have the quest, it starts out as a Misc. quest

almost everyone doesnt like to finish the thieves guild quest because of the skeleton key [like me] also if you get the new dragonborn dlc there is a pretty good thief armor if your a thieves guild member...
