Well I definitely recommend a laser if you do consider carrying. My friend was tracking a wounded hog, it charged him from some brush that was less than 6 feet away. When he drew his pistol he said all he had to do was look for the green dot, put it on the hog and shoot. Pretty amazing considering it was less than 6 feet! So lasers are definitely a good thing to have. And if you're going to get a laser, get a GREEN one, you can't pick red ones out in the daytime no matter how bright it is.

GREAT points man! no matter how you prefer to shoot you always have to practice practice practice! Thats why i like shooting competitions to "UP" the adrenalin/stress factor a little.

I find this a very helpful way to aim and shoot. Thank you!

This quick method seems superior especially since in HD your target will shoot back and likely move.

This method works well. I first started using it in 1986 when I lost the rear sight from my pellet pistol. I could shoot better without the sites than with them.

I've done this quite a bit before. I thought I was the only one to figure out this method, that's cool. The problem with this is right/left eye dominance throws off where exactly the gun is pointing. What will be more universally effective is with both eyes open focusing on the target, align the sights on one of the guns (if you're right eye dominant, align the gun on the left, if left eye dominant align the gun on the right). That's what I have currently been using.

This is a HUGE part of a great book called "Modern Day Gunslinger" by Don Mann. He teaches to use the sides and top of your weapon's slide for shooting, he quotes a study where people actually shoot better with their rear sights taped off. I actually started doing this and my qualification scores went up...

Shooting without using you sights is a good skill to have and I have practiced it. Another suggestion I would make for your personal defense handgun is to get something like xs big dot sights. Out to 25 yards all you have to do is put that big front sight on center of mass and squeeze the trigger.

I shoot with both eyes open. I agree with your points 100% man. I have considered the adrenalin and the shock factors not to mention that you may not see an additional potential threat or innocent bystander in the direction of the closed eye. I also practice long range with one closed eye. Good vid man

Good points man, and well delivered. My only thought (and this is without ever having been in a life threatening situation involving a firearm) is that experts talk about falling to your lowest level of training during a stressful encounter. I think there could be quite a bit of variance in the way people will react to an "encounter". Some may well have the training and experience to maintain a focus on their front sight, while many would surely react to the adrenaline with what is essentially..

I'll stick with the SEAL method. Front Sight, Squeeze, Follow Through

I tried this. It actually works in quick, close range, high stress situations. The "double vision" illusion basically creates a view finder effect where you see your target's center mass as a whole instead of using the pinpoint sights on the top (much like a WW2 aircraft gunner would with say duel .50 cals). Sure this would not be accurate past probably 15 feet or so...but most quick, selfdefense actions will be within that range. Any target past that range you may be able to seek cover(aim)/run
