Great movie. I was also interested in the character of Lenny, the father of the three sisters who has become world-weary and cynical despite having the trappings of success. His doctor tells him that he has the heart of an ox and will live to be 100, as long as he lays off the salt; in the final scene having lunch with his family, we see him smothering his food with salt.

Glad to see a disturbing movie that doesn't rely on simple gross-out body gore.

Also, the lead child's performance is really great and underrated! When he asks the dad whether he raped those kids, his shock and horror at realizing what his father has done is so palpable. Also his concerns about "coming" are just hilarious and add much-needed comic relief to the film.

This was a very uncomfortable movie. Yet, engaging. The acting, the tone, and camera work worked together to keep these issues awkward. The dark humor breaks tension while reminding you the tension is still there. The offbeat elements keeps us a step away. We don't feel safe, but we are secure enough to keep watching.

I really liked this movie Dylan Baker is one of the finest actors I've seen, this movie was so ridiculously funny and sadistically true with portraying how to find happiness. I also recommend you watch a film called 'Me and You and Everyone we Know' with John Hawkes & Miranda July. Great movie if you liked Happiness.

I was hoping someone would talk about the use of colour in the film. Specifically Blues and red. When I was watching it the light blues to me seem to represent the hopeless in pursing happiness. I think it’s because the colour is light, innocent and child-like but it was always use to describe a person’s melancholy. When it was a darker ultramarine blue (which wasn’t that often) I think it was meant to represent the ideal happiness, hope, or the illusion of achieving happiness. The wine bottle in the author house when the neighbour was able to come inside was one of the instances of this. The reds used in the movie was always used when one of the characters was interacting with someone wearing blue. I think the red meant compliancy or happiness. I not really sure but the character wearing red always juxtaposed the character wearing blue. In the final scene where the family was having dinner and drinking red wine, it seemed that level of wine represented the amount of happiness the person had at the end of the film. I’d love to hear someone else’s interpretation of this.

I watched this movie recently after you recommended it to me and I gotta say it's one of the darkest and most shocking films I've seen. It's a brilliant piece of filmmaking but frankly, it was very hard to watch.. Truly a cruel, disturbing, depressing and gut-wrenching experience. After you watch it, you simply just can't forget it.

This is one of my favorite movies its so well done. Everyone acted so well, the filming of scenes between the adu,the and children were done seperate for the kids mental safety. They wanted to tell a real story with a raw message but also filmed responsibly. Take notes cuties

The actress who played Joy did a PHENOMENAL job. I was scared she was going to snap at any second...
