The trick for the Behringer to sound exactly the same is not to drive the mid knob all the way to the max, but a tiny little bit less than that... and boom, same tone!

Behringer Heavy Metal - Boss Heavy Metal

The Behringer uses the same circuit as the Boss one so its basically a reissue with todays componants.  not sure if that effects the tone at all.  doesnt sound like it from here.  Obviously the build quality is lesser than the metal case HM-2, but I'm thinking of buying a HM300 and putting it in a metal box with a proper true bypass 3dpt switch simply because they are dirt cheap and I like the idea of having one in a metal case. 

the ultimate swedish sound from the boss hm pedal came as the battery was dying. it sounded killer!

Yeah, thats what I meant with more upper midrange. Boosting upper midrange/lower treble (around 1khz-10khz region in my books) makes the sound seem sharper and brighter.

I own the Boss HM-2 to play heavy metal and this is the best ! Bought it in the 80's and very very solid and very good sound.

Hahaha!!! I really don't care about the color!!! As long as you get the proper sound then good for you! ;) I still think that pink doesn't belong in the realms of death metal ;)

My dad just ordered the Behringer for me at Guitar Center (I live in the US) and I will pick it up when it arrives and I can't wait to use it.

Just a quick tip, try turning the Level to full on the HM-2 and the distortion to Zero, it will give you the thick, sunlight studios style compression without needing a compressor!
