I am from Kerala,southern part of India. We have plenty of cashewnut plantations. Infact this was our main income for our family when I grow up. The nut \ fruit is not toxic . The oil from the nut comes out only if you cut or heated.So touching nut won't do any harm. The tree size varies from small to very large ..The tree naturally grows in tropical regions with no\little care.Fruits are in varity colors,mostly Red,Yellow or mixed. Fruits get rotten very easily so generally no commercial value .The fruit juice makes stains on cloth so careful while handling

checked, and checked again. I have been doing my research. but THANK you! its nice to know that had I not done my research I would have a host of people looking out for me :) its a good feeling!

I'm sprouting some cashew seeds right now (started them 2-3 weeks ago). The sinking seeds are germinating well, but so are a few of the ones that floated. So if you have only a few seeds, you may want to try planting the "floaters," too, just in case they come up.

In my home town Goa previously portugese india , cashew is propagated better by grafting the trees selected for the graft are the ones that give the best nuts, the cashew apple here is used to brew a very potent liquor called caju feni,  the local brew is like tequilla, it is easily brewed after fermenting the cashew apples for about ten days in sugar and brewers yeast, the first distilled stuff is light which is redistilled till you get the desired strength, the n it is ouzo or fire as you would say in english
