As a Dane I have fun watching how hygge has somehow become the new thing.

I agree! We do all of this in Canada, I think it's just natural to want a cozy home in northern countries given our long winters. Nothing beats wool socks, warm drinks, biscuits or coffee cake, a crackling fire and a lovely throw blanket!

For me as a highly sensitive person this "Danish way of living" sounds very comforting and something I should definitely bring into my own life. Thanks for sharing this.

You have a beautiful home! I love the hardwood floors!

I like your dinning area, particularly the rug that defines the space. Your kitty is such a love-bug, thank-you for sharing

Thank you for sharing this. I just recently learned of this concept of hygge and was trying to learn more about it. I appreciate you inviting us to tour your apartment! I realize that although we had no term for it as we are American, value something similar in our home. We love to make it a cozy place for friends. We have several warm wool blankets and quilts in our living room for us and our friends. We like lots of pillows and have a big fluffy carpet. We have lots of wood furniture and I like to have extra hygge spots in my house with a quilt and a place to curl up and relax. I look forward to incorporating some other aspects of hygge into my life and home!

Even though I have a danish grandfather and am swedish I have never heard of it (!) but I do/have everything you said. My grandmother, who is originally from Finland, make wollen socks for every winter.

The Scandinavian lifestyle is appealing in so many ways. I've never been there, but I'm 1/4 Danish. Easy to maintain home with warm wood floors, uncluttered decorating style is peaceful, minimal possessions, life is about living, not acquiring. Money spent on experiences, and what you need for them example skiing, hiking, outdoor activities. Also, what you enjoy doing. Hobbies, learning and applying, cheap simple social activities. Like picnics with family and friends, etc. The world is rebelling against materialism and want to return to a simpler slower way of life. Cleaner eating, like our ancestors ate. A lot less TV and movie viewing. I'm 67. When a teenager, the TV stations ended at midnight. The news was an hour in the morning, updates at noon and 6pm news with all news done by 7pm. Then again at 10 or 11pm for an hour. We didn't sit in front of media all day. Sat. Morning cartoons then house and yard chores. Lunch, then projects for school or homework and then play. No media except records while house cleaning. No media all day, hang out with friends and family on weekends. A movie 1x a month at the theater. Sunday, church, day fun, night time family TV. Bed between 9&10. We all want a more meaningful less stressful life that is truly lived.

Yes I agree with Hilda Jensen ,it tickles me the way people from other countries talk about Hygge, it's definitely not new, it's not about material things it's about having a hyggelig time with your friends and families over a coffee or a meal, it's the whole atmosphere, and I believe it's something only Scandinavians know how to do, it's something you're brought up with and you just know what it is.
