This type of quest was not well-thought out. You either have to pickpocket him, or "discreetly" kill him... which you can't, since the vampire NEVER leaves the Jarl's palace. You have no choice but to be a pro at stealth or use invisibility to get his little note to have permission to save the Jarl's life just so you don't go to jail.

You need to use your shout to slow down time, steal it from him before he knows what happened. Even if he can detect you he won't know and won't attack. Took me forever, the invisibility potions don't work!

If you can turn into a werewolf, just transform out of sight and go in for the kill and just transform back away from everyone to avoid any bounty.

The invisibility potion did work for me, the potion materials were indeed at the college and even though the eye was open meaning he or someone else saw me, I easily pickpocketed him anyways and it was easy as that. For the last vampire pilgrim posing as a traveler I had to turn into a werewolf inside the bee and barb in riften behind closed doors because my intimidation and persuasion weren't high enough. I was going to do the same here but this was much easier. Thanks!

If you guys have the Become Ethereal ability, you can use it and be technically invisinle. Then you can pickpocket him without getting detected. It worked for me.

I cant pickpocket him without him seeing me, even while im invisible he can see me so idk what to do

For Who cant snek and pickpocket him you can use "openactorcontainer 1" to acces his inventory and take the note.Because its nearly imposible to take note

Definitely helped, I didn’t know where the orders were. I’m L65 so I was just able to pick no problem, not playing any special way, this is my first run.

I guess so, it never said that for me unless you have to get to a certain point in the dlc to do it.

This took me a few tries with a non sneak character, but it works.

Every time I pickpocket him the invisibility potion not works and becomes visible instantly if caught

I had to end up just stealthily killing him. I have a high sneak skill and used a pickpocket potion, and he caught me every single time. And I used the slow time shout at some point to see if that would work, but if you happen to see him in the lower left room, just sneak behind him (when no one else is in there) and kill him.

You have to go the leader of the dawnguard and talk to him about you doing anything to help
