i think the reason Beatmania US failed like it did was because they didn't even try to market it properly (i.e. tie it in heavily with DDR). Also, they changed way too much shit that never needed to be changed (Getting a AAA for a score that would net you only an A on a Japanese style, the 'Perfect' judgement, changing the Easy/Hard gauge modifiers to Easy/Challenge, etc). Also, the bland interface and lazy 9th Style menu music didn't help either.

That's a common opinion. There are other faults with beatmania US, ex: no "Dan"/"Class" mode, bad difficulty spread, need to play songs to use them in free mode, need to play ALL songs to unlock [Another] difficulty, bad display option settings (cannot use 2P side with 1 controller), and "1*-10*" difficulty.
